Wesley College senior Lindsay Siok was named Capital Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week in softball.
The Milford High grad went 3-1 with a 1.17 ERA during Wesley’s spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. Siok totaled 24 innings in her four outings, surrendering just four earned runs and walking two while recording 15 strikeouts.
Her top performance of the week was a complete-game shutout of Ursinus with six strikeouts.
In the CAC, Siok is tied for the conference lead in wins (6), second in strikeouts (31) and tied for the fifth-lowest ERA (1.50).
UD’s Steinmetz honored: Blue Hen sophomore catcher Anna Steinmetz was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Player of the Week on Monday.
Steinmetz posted a team-high eight hits in 12 at-bats during the UNC-Greensboro Spartan Classic, helping Delaware win all four games and improve to 6-12. She hit two home runs, scored three runs and drove home six.
Steinmetz belted a game-winning grand slam in the top of the seventh inning during a 5-4 win over Winthrop on Saturday. She now leads the CAA with five homers and has 20 for her career, tying her for second place in UD history.
Hens’ freshman wins award: Delaware freshman Mia DeRuggiero was recognized by the CAA as the league’s Rookie of the Week in women’s lacrosse.
The midfielder posted four goals and an assist as Delaware split games last week.
Ursuline’s Connolly named top player: Ursuline’s Maggie Connolly has been named the Gatorade Delaware Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
She is the sixth Ursuline player to win the award.
The 5-foot-8 junior guard led the Raiders to a 23-1 record and their third straight DIAA state title. Connolly averaged 13.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals through 23 games.
She is a first-team All-State and first-team All-Catholic Conference honoree and was named to the Diamond State Classic All-Tournament team.
