DOVER — Local entrepreneur Tajesh Patel announced he’ll be opening a Dairy Queen in the coming months in the Shoppes at Fieldstone shopping center in North Dover.

Mr. Patel, who owns 12 Verizon and two Fix Ur Crack stores in the region, believes the location he selected needed additional “food options.”

He opened the new Verizon and Fix Ur Crack stores on 34 Salt Creek Drive last year, yards north of the site he’s currently preparing for the Dairy Queen.

“I was just trying to look at different business opportunities, and being here for the last year, there aren’t too many food options in that area so I started looking around,” he said. “I liked Dairy Queen because they have hot food like burgers and things, but they also have ice cream. In that area, there’s not really an ice cream shop so I thought it would be a good fit.”

About to begin construction on the estimated 2,700-square-foot, $1.5 million building, Mr. Patel thinks it’ll be complete this fall.

“We’re doing site work right now,” he said. “Our goal is to be open by October 31. As of right now, it looks like we’re still on schedule.”

The location will have about 60 parking spots and employ a staff of 40 to 60 employees — four being managers, said Mr. Patel.
