DOVER — Local restaurateurs Ben Lazzaro, John Reinhardt and Brandy Lorea opened their newest venture, Mama Lazzaro’s Flatbread, last week.

A wood-fired pizza and Italian “bistro-style” restaurant, Mama Lazzaro’s Flatbread is currently in a “soft launch” phase at its location on 150 Gateway South Boulevard in Dover with a grand opening planned for Sept. 15.

The new restaurant’s menu is highlighted by its pizza and calzones, but owners say it features “high-end Italian seafood and pasta dishes.”

Mr. Reinhardt noted that the ingredients will set Mama Lazzaro’s Flatbread apart from other local pizza.

“We have a lot of really unique menu items, and a few that honor the community, like the C-5 Pizza we named for the air force base and the First State Pizza,” he said. “We’re using local ingredients supplied from places like Haass’ Family Butcher Shop and Fifer Orchards, as well. We have homemade sauces and dough and we’re offering creative pizzas that will really get peoples’ attention like the Lazzaro Mac, which is Thousand Island dressing, ground beef, a little bacon, lettuce and tomato — so it’s like a Big Mac on a flatbread. That might not sound like it would go well together, but trust me, it’s phenomenal.”

Mr. Lazzaro, Mr. Reinhardt and Ms. Lorea are the same group responsible for opening and managing the two Chaiyo Sushi & Thai Dover locations — one launched in 2016 and the other in 2017.

“We love Delaware, specifically Dover, and we’re constantly looking for opportunities to continue investing in the community,” said Mr. Lazzaro. “The two Chaiyo locations have been received really well by the community, so we want to keep bringing great, authentic dining experiences to our customers.”

The new restaurant employs about 25 people.
