DOVER — Soft opening for the first day last Thursday, the new Starbucks on 50 S. DuPont Highway in Dover will make it official today with a ribbon-cutting at noon.

A Starbucks spokesperson noted that the new location features a 2,539-square-foot café and drive thru. It employs a staff of 25.

The Starbucks will be the first store to open its doors in the still-under-construction Capital Station Dover shopping center on the corner of East Division Street and DuPont Highway.

According Charles Rodriguez of R&R Commercial Realty, the leasing broker for the project, many of the other tenants will be opening their doors in the coming months as well.

“We’re expecting Aldi to open in June and Supercuts, Massage Envy and Village Optical are also shooting for May/June openings,” he said. “Red Robin recently finished up their store in Middletown so we expect that they won’t be far behind either.”

Exceeding expectations, Mr. Rodriguez says the development is already nearly 80 percent pre-leased to commercial tenants despite the fact that construction is not yet complete. Completion is anticipated sometime in August.

“They’re getting ready to start construction on the final building — the one closest to Division Street,” said Mr. Rodriguez. “The whole project will probably be wrapping up in August.”

Formerly the location of the old Playtex plant, the process to revitalize the corner and build the new multi-building retail center began in early 2017.

The originally approved site plan includes 65,000 square feet of retail space across five separate buildings that may be reconfigured several different ways.

The plan also includes 435 parking spaces.
