Happy Thanksgiving!

We hope you enjoy today’s edition and its “stuffings.”

It should help the serious Black Friday shoppers develop a game plan for their retail adventures.

As discussed in Sunday’s “From the Editor,” this is our heaviest issue of the year. It approaches three pounds with all the “stuffings.”

In order to meet the additional demands placed on Delaware Printing Company, our circulation team and contracted delivery people, the edition went to press early Wednesday evening.

In Kent County, a hot spot for Black Friday deals will be the Dover Mall. Did you know that this year marks the 35th anniversary of holiday shopping at the Dover Mall?

This editor was reminded of the 1982 mall opening while working on Sunday’s “From the Editor.” It will be on a new book that the grandchildren of the late Albert Boscov have put together. The title is “Did you Boscov today?”

Boscov’s has been one of the anchor stores since the “new” mall opened, and the store’s advertisements have been an important part of the Delaware State News since.

No doubt, Mr. Boscov would appreciate a recent commentary from a Texas A&M professor who wrote that only about 10 percent of holiday purchases will be made online.

“The overwhelming majority of purchases will still happen within four physical walls of a store,” he wrote.

Professor Kelli Hollinger added, “The main asset of a physical store in a digital world is human staffing. Even if a shopper doesn’t want help, a smile acknowledging his or her presence encourages connection. Front-line employees can ask customers about their kids, in-laws or Thanksgiving meal planning. That can lead to an authentic personal connection through which employees can discover a shopper’s unique wants and respond with products on the shelves, or ordered and shipped for free to the customer’s home.”

The Countdown to Christmas has begun.

Our readers will be able to count along with “Peanuts” again this holiday season.

Starting Saturday, Snoopy and Charlie Brown will have a daily countdown chuckle for you.

And, for fans of the lasagna-eating cat Garfield, you’re in luck. We’ll also have a daily Garfield countdown.
