Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Arctic Monkeys among Firefly headliners

DOVER — Hip-hop superstar Eminem, Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar, rockers Arctic Monkeys and The Killers were announced Thursday morning as the headliners for this year’s Firefly Music Festival at The Woodlands of Dover.

The lineup also features electronic dance music artists ODESZA and Martin Garrix, rappers Lil Wayne and Logic, R&B singer SZA, rock bands alt-J; Portugal. The Man; Foster the People; and MGMT and Mike D of The Beastie Boys with a DJ set.

Dover hip-hop artist Amillion the Poet will also appear this year as the only local act on the 95-act bill.

This seventh annual festival is set for June 14-17 at the Woodlands of Dover.

General admission and VIP pass options go on sale today at 10 a.m. through FireflyFestival.com. Special one-day pricing will be available, with general

admission passes starting at $269. VIP pricing starts at $749.

Representatives from Chicago-based Red Frog Events refused to comment Thursday on this year’s lineup, saying no one was speaking to any media outlet at this time.

This will mark the fifth festival that Eminem will headline this year, having also committed to heavyweights Bonnaroo and Coachella this summer. He released his latest album “Revival” last month.

This will be the third time the Las Vegas-based rockers The Killers will headline Firefly. They topped the bill for the inaugural event in 2012 along with Jack White and The Black Keys and then again in 2015.

Hip-hop Grammy winner and current nominee Mr. Lamar played the Dover event in 2013 while Arctic Monkeys performed in 2014. Firefly is the first announced date for the English rock band in three years.

Acts such as Cold War Kids, MGMT and Foster the People have also played Firefly in the past. Foster the People co-headlined with The Killers ini 2015.

This is the second year that Firefly relied on fan voting to help curate the lineup. Like 2017, this year’s slate of bands leans heavily on hip-hop, rap and electronic acts.

Last year’s Firefly boasted five headliners instead of this year’s four. The Weeknd, Chance the Rapper, Bob Dylan, Twenty One Pilots and Muse topped the bill, which saw lower attendance figures than years past.

Firefly has seen crowds of upwards of 90,000 in past years, particularly in 2015 when rock legend Paul McCartney appeared.

Dates and times for individual artists will be released later in the year.
