Purr-fect conditions for Best Friends Pet Expo

DOVER — The weather for Saturday is expected to be 75 degrees and sunny — perfect conditions for dogs and cats to take their humans out for a stroll and enjoy the second annual Best Friends Pet Expo in downtown Dover.

The free event will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on The Green, located just off of South State Street. It will offer lots of giveaways, demonstrations, vendors and door prizes in a historical setting.

“The Best Friends Pet Expo will be a fun day for pet-owners and their families – pets too – to come out to The Green and meet with vendors, watch some demonstrations and do a little shopping,” said Barbara Anne Jones, Delmarva Events Coordinator for Independent Newsmedia, Inc. USA.

“There will be both informational- and sales-type vendors, food, great giveaways, door prizes, information, demonstrations and entertainment.”

The Kritter Sitter pet sitting company will be supplying visitors with shopping bags they can fill with giveaways, samples and information as they visit with the vendors around The Green.

Guests are encouraged to stop by the Delaware State News information booth to get their shopping bag and to register for the event door prizes. Door prizes will be announced throughout the day but participants do not need to be present to win.

Among the highlights of the Best Friends Pet Expo is the First State Animal Center and SPCA, the event’s charitable fundraising partner, will be on hand with pets available and ready for adoption.

“The event will highlight on-site pet adoptions, as well as dog training and agility demonstrations, too,” Ms. Jones said. “There will be plenty of animals for people to play with and meet. We are encouraging people to bring their pets out to The Green to play and enjoy an afternoon out.

“There are several pet-based vendors, including local pet shops, pet sitters and groomers as well as kennels and more. There will be a demonstration by the Dover Police Department’s K-9 Unit that should be not only informative but exciting to watch as well.”

Visitors to the Pet Expo should also be on the lookout for the Delaware State News mascot Newshound.

“Our very own best friend, Newshound, will be arriving around noon to meet people and their pups,” Ms. Jones said. “She will visit around The Green and take photos with guests.
