4 arrested in Dover on drug, weapon charges

DOVER — A handgun, heroin, Ecstasy and marijuana were allegedly located during a motel room search warrant execution Tuesday afternoon, Dover Police said.

Four arrests followed.

Two children were found inside the Kent Budget Motel room at 383 N. DuPont Highway and turned over to a family member, according to spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman.

Keith A. Landry (also known as Keith A. Landers III, according to court documents) 47, of Dover, was found with the firearm, a .22 caliber Colt with one round in the chamber, during a traffic stop of a 2001 charcoal gray Chevrolet Silverado, police said in a probable cause affidavit.

Mr. Landry was charged with two possession felonies due to his person prohibited status. Papers said he was convicted of second-degree murder, a violent felony, in Florida on April 18, 1990.

Other counts for Mr. Landry included possession with intent to deliver MDMA (Ecstasy packaged in 13 individual clear plastic bags), second-degree conspiracy, endangering the welfare of a child (two charges) and drug paraphernalia. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown on a $42,100 bond.

Delaware Probation and Parole assisted in the arrests. The time of offense was listed as 4:47 p.m. in a police news release. The search warrant execution issued through Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach (approved via videophone by Magistrate John R. Hudson) came at 6:10 p.m., the affidavit reported.

During a traffic stop, police said Andre Wright, 60 of Wilmington was allegedly found with 3.4 grams of marijuana. Warren Coverdale, 44, of Leipsic, was allegedly in possession of 16 bags of suspected heroin stamped “Death Row”, police said in the affidavit.

The stop was followed by the motel room search, police said.

At one point earlier, police said in an affidavit, two officers saw several persons knock on the motel room door, “make contact for a brief moment with an unknown black female and Keith Landry … (which) is consistent with drug deals conducted at motel rooms.”

Vernell Taylor, 23, of Dover, was also arrested. Charges included possession with intent to deliver MDMA, second-degree conspiracy, endangering the welfare of a child (two counts) and drug paraphernalia. She was released on an own recognizance bond.

Mr. Coverdale was released on $700 unsecured bond after being charged with possession of heroin, drug paraphernalia and local fugitive.

Mr. Wright was charged with possession of marijuana, a civil violation, and released.
