Activities and events for DSU homecoming listed

Delaware_State_University_sealDOVER — Delaware State University will kick off its Homecoming Week on Sunday. A full slate of activities are planned for Oct. 9-16 on the university’s main campus.

The public is welcome to attend the following Homecoming events:

• Sunday: “Beauty and the Beast” Royal Coronation, 5 p.m. The crowning of Mr. and Miss DSU, Tevin Smith and Anjosanlynn Fulgham. The free event will be held in the Education and Humanities Theatre.

• Monday: Powder Puff Championship Game, 7-8 p.m., Alumni Stadium football field. Free. Sponsored by the Department of Wellness & Recreation.

• Monday: Faculty/Staff & Alumni vs. Students Flag Football Game. 8:30-9:30 p.m. Alumni Stadium football field. Free. Sponsored by the Department of Wellness & Recreation

• Oct. 13: Homecoming Step Show, 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for general public and are available in the DSU Ticket Office. In Memorial Hall Gym.

• Oct. 14: Third annual Alumni and Friends Art Festival, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cultural art exhibition of national and local artists. In the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center (first floor). Free.

• Oct. 14: Dr. Jerome Holland Statue Reception, 3-5 p.m. MLK Student Center Parlors (second floor) Registration

• Oct. 14: DSU Alumni Association Legacy Mixer, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. In the MLK Student Center Parlors (second floor). Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at https://www.desu.edu/event/homecoming-2016-0#tickets

• Oct. 14: Homecoming Concert, 10 p.m. (doors open at 9 p.m.) Memorial Hall Gym. Cost: $45 for students and $55 for public (with College I.D. only). Featured acts: A Boogie, Yung MA, Lil Uzi and the Party Next Door.

• Oct. 15: Alumni Welcome Home Breakfast, 7:30-10 a.m., Conrad Hall. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at https://www.desu.edu/event/homecoming-2016-0#tickets. A 9:30 a.m. shuttle to and from the Homecoming Parade will be provided for alumni after the breakfast.

• Oct. 15: Homecoming Party, 10 p.m. (doors open at 9 p.m.; doors close at 11:30 p.m. and party ends at 2 a.m.). Memorial Hall Gym, Cost: $20 for students and $25 for general public (with College I.D. only), on sale at the DSU Ticket Office.

• Oct. 15: Homecoming Parade at 10 a.m. in downtown Dover (from the Legislative Mall area and onto Loockerman Street). Parade participants can register at http://www.desu.edu/form/homecoming-parade (click on the event).

• Oct. 15: Alumni Welcome Home Tent from 1 to 6 p.m. near the on-campus north side of the Main DSU entrance. Registration is required and can be done by going to https://www.desu.edu/event/homecoming-2016-0#tickets.

• Oct. 15: Homecoming football game, Florida A&M vs. DSU, 2 p.m. at Alumni Stadium. Tickets are $30-$40 and can be purchase at www.dsuhornets.com)

• Oct. 15: 125th Anniversary Celebration, 6-11:30 p.m. Dover Downs Hotel and Casino. Featuring V. Bozeman of the hit Fox drama “Empire.” Tickets are $60 and can be purchased at https://www.desu.edu/event/homecoming-2016-0#tickets.

• Oct. 16: Gospel-Jazz Send-off Brunch for Alumni and Friends,  10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Village Café. Cost: $25 and can be purchased at https://www.desu.edu/event/homecoming-2016-0#tickets.

• Oct. 16: Homecoming Gospel, Concert featuring J.J. Hairston & Youthful Praise. Concert at 5 p.m. (doors open at 4 p.m.), in the Education & Humanities Theatre. Sponsored by the DSU Student Government Association.
