Candidates forum set for Wednesday, Oct.17

DOVER — The League of Women Voters of Kent County and the American Association of University Women Dover Chapter will host a candidates forum 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, in the Palmer Room of the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.

The list of invited candidates includes those running for state senate and state representative from Kent County, Kent County Levy Court, Kent County Sheriff and Recorder of Deeds.

Candidates will be given the opportunity to make an opening statement.

Members of the audience will be given index cards at the entry door and throughout the program on which to pose questions directly to the candidates.

The League of Women Voters will moderate the debate.

The League of Women Voters is required to abide by regulations of the Federal Elections Commission, the Federal Communications Commission and the U.S. Internal Revenue Service for non-partisan groups sponsoring appearances of candidates for elective office.

Consequently, should only one candidate for a particular office be present, even if that candidate is unopposed, the organizations cannot provide the opportunity for him or her to address the audience in the formal debate.

Candidates affected by these regulations are encouraged to attend the event and meet informally with constituents prior to and after the program.
