Central Delaware NAACP organizes pre-Thanksgiving dinner for Monday

DOVER — The community is invited, all of it.

Organizers of the NAACP of Central Delaware’s first Community, Family, and Fellowship Dinner don’t know how many guests and volunteers will attend Monday’s pre-Thanksgiving feast at Holy Trinity Church, but are preparing to warmly greet anyone who arrives to the free event.

“There will never be enough volunteers,” NAACP Central Delaware President La Mar Gunn said.

“We want people to come out and have a good time, whoever you are. If you care about this city you should come out and spend time with other community members, having conversations and growing closer to each other.”

The dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church at 425 W. Division St. For more information, call (302) 242-1267,

The menu includes turkey and dressing, macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, greens, green beans, rolls, cakes and pies, donated by churches, community members and other organizations, organizers said.

NAACP of Central Delaware said it partnered with the Dover Police Department and the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance “in an effort to continue our mission of creating an atmosphere of brotherly love throughout our city …

“This event is free and open to all who would like to come and (share) fellowship together in unity.”

Some Dover Police officers and staff will serve meals at the church.

Also that day, Dover Police will orchestrate its own program in conjunction with Communities in Schools and the Food Bank of Delaware, delivering frozen turkeys and complete meals in boxes to people’s doors.
