Del. 1 traffic switch over Bowers Beach Road moved to Sunday

LITTLE HEAVEN — The Delaware Department of Transportation announced today that the Del. 1 traffic switch onto the new alignment over Bowers Beach Road has been moved up due to forecasted temperatures and weather.

The work schedule has been advanced, with lane shift operations now set to begin Sunday night and continuing through the day on Monday.

DelDOT’s contractor, A-Del Construction, intends to complete the switch for both northbound and southbound traffic by Monday, however, the southbound switch remains highly weather dependent and may still be delayed.

Motorists are asked to follow all signs and to stay alert through the areas as the traffic pattern will change throughout the day. The change will eliminate the current traffic signals on Del. 1 and transition all turning movements to the service roads.

With the traffic shift, motorists accessing Bowers Beach Road and Barratts Chapel Road will need to take the new Exit 88. Northbound motorists attempting to access Clapham Road will continue to use the detour that is currently in place, until the final phase of the project is complete.

Variable message boards will be posted advising motorists of the upcoming new traffic pattern.

The schedule of this work is subject to change due to weather.
