DOVER — Lights, camera, action!

The Downtown Dover Partnership is primed and ready to unveil its monthly “Dinner and a Movie” night for families at Loockerman Way Plaza on Saturday.

The movie “Sherlock Gnomes” will be the first of four movies that will be shown free of charge in the monthly “Dinner and a Movie” event to downtown Dover Saturday.

Tina Bradbury, the operations and program manager for the DDP, said the movie program was set to begin in March but was delayed due to organizational changes within the DDP that forced it to regroup.

Ms. Bradbury said she is excited that “Dinner and a Movie” is finally coming downtown.

“I am thoroughly excited,” Ms. Bradbury said. “We played around with the movie equipment (Wednesday) night and it’s all ready to go.

“We will have free popcorn for everybody attending and I think it’s just making another popular event in the community for people to come out and enjoy with their families.”

It will be much more than movies.

People are invited to dine at downtown restaurants, as well as food trucks that will gather around Loockerman Way Plaza at 6 p.m.

“We will have food trucks and yard games for people to play,” said Ms. Bradbury. “We will have giant Connect 4, giant Jenga, giant Twister and cornhole. People are also more than welcome to bring their own games out if they want.”

The movie will begin at dusk, which is between 8:45 and 9 p.m. this time of year.

Ms. Bradbury offered some helpful tips for families who plan on attending the event.

“Bring blankets and chairs,” she said. “People are welcome to sit in either the concrete or grassy areas at Loockerman Way Plaza.

“They should also bring bug spray, money for the food trucks if they’d like, and any games they’d like to play before the movie begins.”

Other movies scheduled to be shown at Loockerman Way Plaza on “Dinner and a Movie” nights are: CoCo (July 21); Captain Underpants (Aug. 18); and Ferdinand (on a September date to be decided).

“People seem to be really excited about ‘Dinner and a Movie’ night,” Ms. Bradbury said. “We’ve just gotten a lot of great feedback. It’s another community-involved event to showcase all the great things we have happening in downtown Dover.”
