Discrimination complaint against City of Dover transferred to Superior Court

DOVER — A Dover couple’s complaint against the city claiming discrimination based on their national origin was transferred to Superior Court of Delaware for further proceedings on Tuesday in the Court of Chancery.

Mazen and Nina Shahin claim that property taxes on their home were improperly assessed by the City of Dover, which was named as a defendant along with the city tax assessor, court documents said.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor Joseph R. Slights III denied the plaintiff’s application for appointment of an attorney under the Delaware Fair Housing Act in Delaware Code. According to the Court, the city filed a motion to dismiss for lack of subject matter jurisdiction, which was granted.
