Dover goes festive Saturday

DOVER — The first Community Fall Festival to benefit the MLK Jr. Educational Community Center Inc. is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Loockerman Way Plaza.

The event will include a photo booth, carnival games, cake walk, raffle prizes, bounce house, live music, arts and crafts, bake and yard sales, face painting, local vendors, silent auction, trick or treating and plenty of candy, according to organizers who billed the event as family friendly.

The free event at 116 W. Loockerman St. is being held by the MLK Jr. Educational Community Center in conjunction with the Downtown Dover Partnership.

The MLK Jr. Educational Community Center was established in March 2015 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The nonprofit says its mission is to “provide services and opportunities by empowering individuals faced with barriers and obstacles to establish a road map for success and restoring community and family self-sufficiency.

The nonprofit said it has the following components:

• Adult and youth mentoring.

• At-risk youth development.

• Adult basic education services.

• Mental health services (substance abuse/addiction, family, domestic violence, anger management, DUI).

• Workforce development (culinary arts and dietary aid, retail sales, computer repair, construction including carpentry, masonry, HVAC, plumbing and flagging).

• Veterans’ services.

• Community outreach.
