DOVER — Runners and walkers alike will take to the streets of Dover on June 1 for the 29th Annual Dover Mile & Colonial 5K.

The Dover Mile, billed as “the fastest one-mile race in Delaware,” has been a regional favorite of runners and walkers since its inception in 1987.

But the mile race isn’t the only competition in the Dover Running Festival. In the Colonial 5K, runners and walkers will travel some of the most historic and picturesque streets in Downtown Dover.

Both The Dover Mile and The Colonial 5K are USA Track & Field certified courses that will appeal to both competitive athletes and recreational fitness walkers and runners. Those looking for a challenge might consider tackling both courses with a “Double Down Registration.”

Participant times are recorded using microchip tracking technology to ensure accuracy.

The rain or shine event begins with registration at 5 p.m. in front of The Governor’s Cafe on Kings Highway. After check-in, participants in the Dover Mile will be transported by bus to the starting point on South State Street near South Dover Elementary School. The finish line will be on Kings Highway adjacent to The Governors Café.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the Dover Mile beginning at 6. The Colonial 5K will begin at 6:30. Awards will be presented immediately following the 5K at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available along with music provided by Affinity Entertainment.

Event fees for registrations received by mail or online on or before May 28 are: $15 for The Dover Mile; $20 for The Colonial 5K; $35 for The Double Down (both events). Registrations received after May 28 or on the day of the event are: $20 for The Dover Mile; $25 for the Colonial 5K and $40 for The Double Down.

The Dover Mile family registration (adult with children younger than 18) is $30. For students younger than 18, fees are $15 for The Colonial 5k; $25 for The Double Down.

Nonprofit organizations registering as a group of 10 or more participants will receive one-half of their total group registration fee back to their organization as a donation from Dover Colonial Rotary Club. Groups are encouraged to wear team apparel that will identify their group and promote their nonprofit organization.

Colonial Rotary Club gives 100 percent of the money raised from the Dover Running Festival to community organizations and projects, including scholarships to high school graduates, dictionaries to all third-grade students in the Capital School District and annual grants to the Dover Boys & Girls Club, the Boy Scouts of America, the Child HELP Foundation and the Dover Fire Department.

Entry forms are available from any Colonial Rotary member, by email at Races4u@TriSportsEvents.Com or at www.TriSportsEvents.Com. Sponsorship opportunities are available by contacting any member of Colonial Rotary.

Registration checks should be payable to Colonial Rotary Club of Dover, P.O. Box 1772, Dover, DE 19903.
