Dover woman indicted in 2017 death of child

DOVER — A Dover woman was indicted this week on a criminally negligent homicide count regarding the 2017 death of a child, according to Kent County Superior Court documents.

Chanel E. Green was also indicted for allegedly endangering the welfare of a child due to the father’s previous no contact order with the child and second-degree child abuse conviction in 2016.

Upon release from prison, authorities alleged, Ms. Green, 26, allegedly allowed the 25-year-old father to return to the residence in the 4000 block of Forrest Avenue. The man was identified as the primary care giver in the indictment.

The child was transported to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital on April 30, 2017 after a medical emergency and later pronounced dead, according to Delaware State Police when announcing the arrest. A Delaware Division of Forensic Science autopsy later determined that a homicide by blunt force trauma had occurred.

Ms. Green was at work at the time of the alleged incident and returned home when contacted by the father, police said.

The father was charged with murder by abuse.

Deputy Attorney General Stephen E. Smith represented the state in obtaining the indictment.
