Dover woman returns fire after being shot at

DOVER — A woman returned fire after being shot at near her home early Sunday morning, Dover Police spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.

The sequence began at 1:08 a.m. when the woman saw several black men walking around her vehicle in front of her home, authorities said.

The men walked away and were standing near a black hatchback vehicle on the same block.

The woman said she then drove her vehicle towards the men, one of whom discharged a firearm several times, causing damage to the vehicle’s rear passenger side door.

The woman, who claimed to be alone, then fired from inside her vehicle before fleeing the area, police said.
Police said the woman openly carries a legally owned handgun. She reported the incident to law enforcement.

No injuries were reported and no further damage found other than the woman’s vehicle, police said. It was unknown if any words were exchanged before the gunfire or whether other people were in the area at the time.

One of the suspects was described as wearing a blue jacket. The suspects left the area in the black hatchback vehicle.
Investigating police asked anyone with information to call 736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous.

Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or online at; a cash reward of up to $1,000 is possible for information leading to an arrest.
