DOVER — The Delaware Department of Transportation’s contractor George & Lynch began work on curb repairs on East Division Street and U.S. 13 on Monday.

DelDOT is expecting shoulder closures for the repairs on East Division Street street from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. from now until Saturday.

However, the project will intensify as Division Street (Del. 8) will be closed between U.S. 13 and Edgehill Avenue from 7 p.m. on Friday until 10 p.m. on Saturday for milling operations followed by utility adjustments and overlay.

DelDOT officials said that work is being conducted Friday and Saturday to minimize the impact to the traveling public.

“East Division Street (work) has begun (Monday) with shoulder closures for curb and utility repairs,” said James D. Osborne, of Group 3 Construction for Team DelDOT. “This activity will have limited to no impact to the travel lanes for the week leading to the milling and hot mix operation.

“The milling and paving operation will be completed with a detour that will be closed, with a posted detour route, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. until Saturday.”

Motorists should take note that the work this weekend will cause detours around the East Division Street construction.

However, Dover City Manager Donna Mitchell doesn’t expect the detours to be too troublesome.

“It is my understanding this is a DelDOT project,” Mrs. Mitchell said. “It is isolated to the east side of Route 13 on Division Street adjacent to the (Edgehill) shopping center for the installation of ADA (Americans with Disability Act) improvements.”

The following are DelDOT’s detour routes around the East Division Street project Friday and Saturday:

• U.S. 13 motorists traveling southbound will travel east on White Oak Road, south on Acorn Lane and return to East Division Street.

• Traffic going north on U.S. 13 will travel east on White Oak Road, south on Acorn Lane and return to East Division Street.

• Drivers traveling east on East Division Street will travel north onto U.S. 13, east on White Oak Road, south on Acorn Lane and return to East Division Street.

• For those headed west on East Division Street, North Little Creek Road traffic will travel north on Acorn Lane, west on White Oak Road, south on U.S. 13 and return to East Division Street.

• Meanwhile, drivers heading south on Del. 1 should take Exit 95, go north on Del. 10, continue north on U.S. 13 and return to East Division Street.Detour signs will be posted for motorists.

In the event of inclement weather, the work will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 20, until 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 21.
