Dover Elks set dinner program

DOVER — Dover Elks invites all veterans to their Veterans Day ceremony and dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 10, Dover Elks Lodge 1903, 200 Saulsbury Road, Dover. The ceremony begins at 4 p.m. followed by dinner. For more information, call 736-1903.

Honor Our Fallen at VFW Post

DOVER — Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3238 and Auxiliary will host a flag placing event on Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. at Sharon Hills-Odd Fellows Cemetery, 35 Rising Sun Road in Dover. Participants are welcome to join and place flags at veterans burial sites in remembrance of Veterans Day.

Zwaanendael to host lecture

LEWES — On Nov. 10, in honor of Veterans Day and the signing of the armistice ending World War I, there will be a lecture by U.S. Navy Capt. Bill Manthorpe at Zwaanendael Museum, 102 Kings Highway, Lewes. The program will explore the effects of the Great War on Lewes. Part of “Across the Ages to the Edge of the Sea,” a lecture series exploring the history of the Lewes area from the 17th to the 20th centuries. Program at 2 p.m. on the museum’s second floor (entry via staircase; no elevator).

Free admission but, due to space restrictions, reservations for the lecture are required by calling 302-645-1148.

Legion hosts Laurel event

LAUREL — The American Legion Post 19 will host the 6th Annual Eastern Shore Veterans Day Parade at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, in downtown Laurel.

The grand marshal for this year’s parade is Vietnam Veteran Dr. Mayer Katz, a vascular surgeon at Beebe Medical Center.

From July 1967 to August 1968, Dr. Katz worked in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH).

During his time in Vietnam, he performed over 400 operations and logged each patient name, operation and outcome.

He still has the logs today.

The United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, the official ceremonial unit and escort to the President of the United States, will lead this year’s parade.

The parade will be followed by a festival at Janosik Park, Front and Market streets, featuring vendors, entertainment and displays that will continue until 4 p.m.

AMC Museum hosts ceremony

DOVER — The AMC Museum will hold its 2018 Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11.

The museum opens at 9 a.m. and seating begins inside at 9:50 a.m. The ceremony begins at 10:50 a.m., rain or shine, with a film and opening remarks followed by posting of the colors.

In addition to the Dover Air Force Base Honor Guard and special guest speaker retired Col. Eugenia Thornton, USA, , they will have music by the Milford Community Band. Charlie’s Hot Dogs will have food available in the canteen. The C-5 and C-141 will be open for viewing until 3 p.m.

The museum will close at 4 p.m.

Del. Commission sets event

NEW CASTLE — On Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs will hold its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the War Memorial Plaza (Delaware Bridge), 163 Cherry Lane, New Castle. This year’s event is being hosted by the Marine Corps League with the support of DCVA. For more information, visit veteransaffairs.delaware.gov.

Interpretation in Dover

DOVER — On Nov. 11 at 2 p.m., the Old State house in Dover will present “Over There and Back Again!,” a first-person interpretation by lead historic-site-interpreter Gavin Malone who will portray a World War I veteran discussing the differences in American society between the 1910s and the early 1920s.

The program will also feature music of the period.

Seaford event at Kiwanis Park

SEAFORD — The Seaford Veterans Day ceremony, sponsored by the Seaford Veterans Committee, will be held Sunday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Kiwanis Memorial Park adjacent to the intersection of Stein Highway and Atlanta Road.

In event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Seaford High School auditorium, 399 N. Market Street, Seaford.

Following the ceremony at 1 p.m., American Legion Post 6 (Log Cabin) on Front Street, Seaford, and VFW Post 4961 on Middleford Road, Seaford, will hold open houses with lunch served. These are free and open to the public.

Walter L. Post 2 event

DOVER — On Nov. 12, American Legion Walter L. Post 2 Dover, 835 S Bay Road in Dover, will hold a Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Guest speaker will be Retired Chief Master Sgt. Dennis Desilet (Air Force).

This event is open to the public.

A light lunch will follow and the lounge will open following the ceremony. For detail, call 674-3922.

Veteran Appreciation Day

DOVER — On Nov. 11, Verizon Wireless, 34 Salt Creek Drive, Dover, will open at 10:30 a.m. in celebration of Veteran Appreciation Day.

They plan to offer care packages, refreshments, information about military discounts and answers to technology questions for veterans.

State museums open to public

DOVER — The following museums of the state of Delaware will be open on Monday, Nov. 12, for Veterans Day:
