Felton/Harrington Town Crier: Memorial Day Parade & Wreath Laying among upcoming happenings

•The Greater Harrington Historical Society, in association with the City of Harrington’s 150th Anniversary, will hold a Memorial Day Parade & Wreath Laying on Monday, May 27. The parade begins at 9 a.m. followed by a wreath laying (10 a.m.) at the Clark Family Memorial. A time of dedication to honor 2nd Lt. John Butler will be held after the wreath laying with a permanent display at the Historical Society. Lt. Butler was one of the logistical planners and co-pilot of the glider operation on D-Day. He lost his life that very day. After the morning events, American Legion Post 7 and the Historical Society will join to lay wreaths at Hollywood Cemetery

•The Hub Club, (Harrington, Felton Greenwood) meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at Rudy’s in Harrington. Education coordinator for the Delaware Nature Society, Alice Mohrman, will be the guest speaker for the Wednesday, March 20 meeting. Her topic of discussion will be on their Backyard Habitat Certification Program. Guest are always welcome. Meeting time is 7:30 p.m. Call Frank Newton at 908-581-8774 for more information.

•Willow Run Community Center will host a Penny Auction on Saturday, March 23 at 6 p.m. Over 50 gift certificates from local businesses and other items will be up for auction. Adult admission cost is $2, children 12 and under $1. Proceeds benefit the Willow Run Scholarship Fund. Refreshments available; doors open at 5 p.m.

•Harrington Senior Center will hold a Quarter Auction on Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m. Advance tickets are $15, at the door $20. Ticket price includes a bidding paddle and a roll of quarters. Extra paddles available for purchase. Doors open at 5 p.m. For more information call the Center at 398-4224.

•Harrington Parks & Recreation Happenings: Annual Golf Tournament scheduled for May 17 at Jonathan’s Landing. Registration limited to the first 25 teams. Cost is $300 for foursomes, $80 individual. Cost includes golf cart, open range, and luncheon. Awards, prizes and luncheon after golf play. Call Bill Falsco at 398-7975 for more information. HPR will be serving Breakfast at American Legion Post 7 on Sunday, March 24 from 7-11 a.m. Come out and support the cause. Group Training/Adult Fitness is held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Classes are instructed by a fitness professional. Yoga classes at HPR are held on Saturdays at 9 a.m. or Monday evenings from 6-7 p.m., Wednesdays 4:30-5:30. Bring towel, water bottle and mat. Heritage Day meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Vendor registrations are currently being accepted for this event. Spaces are available for craft and food vendors and information booths. Register early, space is limited. Heritage Day is slated for Aug. 24. New ideas are always welcome. Please help First State Animal Control and SPCA help care for our furry friends by dropping off donations at the collections box. Our furry friends will be so thankful.

•D & D Greetings & Deli (12 W. Sewell St. in Felton) will be closing their doors until further notice. We would like to thank everyone who has shown their support over the years; May God Bless Each And Every One Of You. Deb’s Domestics and JD’s Beads & More are still at the same location;

•Harrington Public Library invites children ages 10 and over to join the Card Club on Monday, March 18 and Thursday, March 21 from 3:30-5 p.m. It’s a time to meet new friends and share in cards and other games. Walk In Computer Help is offered on Tuesday, March 19 at 1 p.m. Sign up at front desk. Friends of HPL will meet on Tuesday, March 19 at 5:30 p.m. New members are always welcome. Children pre-school age and under are invited to participate in Storytime every Wednesday (10:45 a.m.). Groups of 10 or larger must register in advance. Book Discussion is slated for Thursday, March 21 at 6 p.m. Bring your recent reads and share with the group. Social workers will be at HPL on Friday, March 22 to assist with application process for food benefits, Medicare, job training/employment, home energy assistance, Medicaid, long-term nursing care and more.
