Luncheon will raise funds for local law enforcement, first responders

CAMDEN — Tracy Torres relates to what police officers, their spouses and children experience daily.

The wife of a military husband for three years, she cherished each time he returned home.

“Military and law enforcement are very similar in the sense of what their families go through,” Ms. Torres said. “When our guys our deployed yo don’t know what’s going on and you don’t know if police officers will come home every day.”

On Wednesday, the First Responder and Law Enforcement Appreciation Luncheon will raise funds for local law enforcement — Dover, Camden, Wyoming and Delaware State Police Troop 3.

The luncheon runs from noon to 4 p.m. and costs $10 for adults and $5 for children. First responders receive free entry.

The event — organized by Jason Stewart and Patrick Boyle and volunteers- debuted in 2017 to benefit families of three fallen officers that year.

Ms. Torres, owner of ARTT Studio 4 Hair, joined the cause and has been publicizing through fliers in her salon and Facebook to summon interest. She’s donating 50 free haircut vouchers to first responders who visit her salon.

“A lot of cops already come into the salon and when I first got wind of it I definitely wanted to help and take part in it,” Ms. Torres said.

Food was donated by local restaurants, with money coming in from local municipalities, legislators and businesses. Donations can be made at the fire company on luncheon day as well.

While an RSVP isn’t required, they can be done by contacting Mr. Stewart at 382-9148 or Jason.Stewart85@gmail.com.
