Milton man dies in motorcycle crash

DOVER – A 26-year-old Milton man died Sunday night after the motorcycle he was operating struck a Jeep and burst into flames, police said.

Eric L. Stubbs was operating a 2009 Suzuki sports bike at an apparent high rate of speed when the incident occurred on South State Street at approximately 7:10 p.m., the Delaware State Police said.

The motorcycle struck the Jeep with its front end, and then slid about five feet before going down on its side and bursting into flames, according to authorities.

Mr. Stubbs, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown off the bike after impact; he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver and passenger in the Jeep Rubicon were not injured, according to authorities.

Police said the state Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the fatal crash that was in the area of South State Street and North Old Mill Road.

According to police, the motorcycle was reported by the New Castle County Police Department to allegedly be stolen.

Police said South State Street in the area of the crash was closed for approximately four hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
