Police: Dover shoplift suspect caught on tape

DOVER — A store surveillance video prompted the arrest of a 27-year-old Dover man on felony shoplifting charges this week, according to authorities in an arrest affidavit.

Burlington Coat Factory contacted Dover Police after alleged incidents on Jan. 4 and 8, providing video surveillance copies and a photo to investigators, court documents stated.

Julian T. Lark Jr. was identified as a person of interest and subsequantly arrested Wednesday.

A video review indicated that more than $150 in merchandise was allegedly taken during two incidents, police said, including boots, pants and sneakers.

A razor blade was used to cut off security tags, police said, while other items were allegedly concealed in bags.

A suspect spent more than 45 minutes in the store at 515 N. Dupont Highway in the first alleged incident, and five minutes during the second visit, according to information included in the affidavit.

Charges include four counts of possession of shoplifter’s tools and two counts of shoplifting under $1,500. Mr. Lark entered not guilty pleas.

Mr. Lark was given a $600 unsecured bond at Justice of the Peace Court 7 in Dover.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 26.
