Presidential primary registration date is Friday

DOVER — Delawareans planning to change their political affiliation for the state’s presidential primary must do so by Friday.

Because Delaware has a closed primary, Republicans can only vote for a Republican and Democrats can only vote for a Democrat. Those who belong to another party cannot vote.

Anyone looking to change their registration can go to and select the appropriate option. Further questions also can be answered at the Elections Department’s website.

The election will take place April 26 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Most citizens have until April 2 to register, and those in the military or living overseas have until April 11.

Friday is also the last day for candidates to file. In the Democratic primary, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has filed, while on the other side, businessman Donald Trump, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio have submitted their information.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, a Republican, filed in November but announced over the weekend he was ending his campaign.
