DOVER — A jury trial has been set for September for a former Caesar Rodney High School teacher and wrestling coach facing charges for an alleged sexual relationship with a female student in 2014.

Richard L. “Dickie” Howell II, 51, who earlier pleaded not guilty to 50 felony counts in an indictment, was at the Kent County Courthouse Tuesday morning to learn of a scheduled Sept. 2 Final Case Review and Sept. 9 trial opening.

No judge has been assigned to the case in Kent County Superior Court. The court assigned the dates.

On April 30, Mr. Howell pleaded not guilty to 43 counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a child by a person in a position of trust, authority or supervision, and seven counts of sexual solicitation of a child.

He declined comment afterward.

Deputy Attorney General Kathy Dickerson is prosecuting the case for the state and lawyer Alexander Funk is representing Mr. Howell.

Mr. Howell, of Wyoming, resigned from the Caesar Rodney School District on April 9, three days after an indictment was returned by a Kent County grand jury.

The school board approved his resignation at the district’s monthly meeting on April 21.
