Two suspects charged in human trafficking

SMYRNA — Two Smyrna residents were charged with human trafficking and promoting prostitution after search warrant executions early Monday morning, authorities said.

The arrests followed an investigation that culminated with searches at a residence in the 100 block of Holly Ridge Drive and Kiki Spa in the unit block of E. Commerce Street, Smyrna Police spokesman Cpl. Brian Donner said.

James Walls, 61, and Sha Shen, 64, were taken into custody. Court documents listed the same home address on Holly Ridge Drive for both.

Detectives determined that Mr. Walls and Ms Shen had allegedly used persons illegally trafficked into the country to commit prostitution and other sex acts at their Kiki Spa business, Cpl. Donner said when announcing the case in a news release.

Smyrna Police assisted the alleged victims and provided resources afterward, along with Homeland Security Investigations, the Salvation Army, Zoe Ministries, Garden Hope of New York and Restore New York, according to authorities.

“This collaborative effort between law enforcement, human services and other non-profit program providers was able to help make this a victim centered case, ensuring that those people affected by these criminal acts received all the possible support available to them,” Cpl. Donner said.

Charges included two counts of human trafficking, promoting prostitution and second-degree conspiracy.
Mr. Walls and Ms. Shen were presented via video court and held by the Delaware Department of Correction in lieu of $70,000 cash bond each, police said.
