Our country has been set back 100 years since January 2017. Let’s see what has been done. Allies have been alienated, war veterans belittled, Gold Star families denigrated, women slandered, racists egged on and emboldened, the emoluments clause thrown to the side, the Secret Service bankrupted, congressional and FBI investigations interfered with, working and tax-paying families torn apart, our future doctors and scientists facing expulsion, trade agreements ignored making China the power in the Pacific, the decimation of our climate encouraged, the government shut down as a result of rescinding DACA, failure to fill vital positions, a large tax cut for the rich, and all while ignoring the buildup of Russian forces along the border of the Baltic States.

Bipartisan bills have been reached in the Senate only to have them blown off because of his adviser Stephen Miller. Can’t he think for himself? This idea of a wall with Mexico is just another example of someone who knows nothing about history. Woodrow Wilson tried isolationism and it didn’t work then and will fail even worse now. The government shutdown is just another example of failure to negotiate in good faith by the White House. Is a temper tantrum going to put us at a nuclear war?

Now you tell us we are going to see a budget deal (we went through this brinkmanship in December and now in January) and a resolution on immigration (he forgets he comes from immigrants as do 95 percent of the people in this country) by Feb. 8!!! That means more bills that not one congressman has read completely before voting, When is our Congress going to do their job as opposed to spending time in Washington phoning for campaign contributions?

Make America Great Again is his mantra. Have you seen him or his daughter bring their product lines back to the United States for manufacture? Nope, still overseas.

So, when you can’t afford to get food you want because of thrown out trade agreements and the wall (do you really know how much of that food in the stores comes from Mexico and Canada and who really picks American produce or processes 90 percent of the poultry), when we have another recession (commercial real estate is now greatly behind in mortgage payments and the decimation of the Frank-Dodd Act is allowing questionable investments by financial institutions), or when the Russians make a push for Kaliningrad (as they have in Crimea and Ukraine) will anyone in our Congress have backbone to say, enough?

This country is not a kingdom but a democracy. At present neither Congress, the Cabinet nor the vice president have the backbone to invoke Article 25 of our Constitution. Being cognizant does not mean a person is fit to govern a country. Even Ted Bundy and Charles Manson were cognizant.
