Letter to the Editor: 2019 Lewes Summer Concert Series a success

On behalf of the City of Lewes and Lewes Parks & Recreation Commission I would like to extend a huge Thank You to everyone who supported our concert series this year.

We had another great turnout with over 4,900 attendees over 12 concerts this summer. New addition to the concert series this year was our concert emcee and radio host to Creative Coast on Radio Rehoboth 99.1 FM and to Coastal Arts & Entertainment on Delaware 105.9, Michael Sprouse.

Michael did a wonderful job of introducing and interviewing the bands to give the audience some background information and education on what you would be hearing that night. Thank you Michael.

Thank you to the local Lewes businesses, Realtor offices, Lewes Library, Lewes Historical Society, and Lewes Chamber of Commerce for posting the concert posters in your windows and disturbing the concert brochures to patrons and visitors. This really helps support the concert series and allows new visitors in town to experience a fun night of music in the park.

Thank you to Cape Henlopen High School and Gary Flowers who manages the theatre, for allowing us to use the high school when there is inclement weather or a threat of it. I know the concert patrons really appreciate the ability to enjoy a weekly concert regardless of weather.

Thank you to all the concert regulars who come each year with their bright smiles and fun upbeat attitudes. You are true ambassadors for the concert series and I really appreciate the feedback and suggestions to keep the series interesting and great.

Thank you to the 12 wonderful musical acts that came to Lewes regardless of weather. The military bands always put on a great show and The Funsters had the biggest crowd we have ever seen at our concert series during July 4th holiday with close to 1,500 people in attendance! We also had a wonderful mixture of musical genres this year from jazz, bluegrass, country, Americana, Motown and more. To review the 2019 band line up visit our website http://www.ci.lewes.de.us/220/Summer-Concert-Series.

Of course a huge Thank YOU goes to our sponsors of the concert series, WSFS Bank, Delaware Division of the Arts, and The City of Lewes, who provide funding to secure great musical acts to perform Tuesday evenings in Stango Park for 12 weeks during the summer. Their funding ensures the concerts are always FREE and open to the public.

WSFS Bank shows their spirit of service throughout the community and strives to make an impact in the lives of others. They do this in many ways including providing grant funding for the Lewes concert series for over 14 years, we could not be more grateful.

The concerts are also supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.

And of course we could not do this concert series without the support from the City of Lewes council and Lewes Parks & Recreation Commission. Funding through the city budget to parks & recreation also goes toward securing musical acts, funding repairs to the stage and park, and creating and printing concert posters and brochures. To the volunteers who support the parks & recreation commission to help keep the park beautiful and clean for all our visitors, thank you!

I look forward to planning another great concert series for 2020 and welcome your input.
