Letter to the Editor: Delaware can help itself

The fact that Delaware Tech needs money for various projects is clear.

The idea of creating a state income tax to fund that is a bad idea that even the bill’s sponsors now seem to accept — at least for this legislative session.

I wonder how many people realize that the school has an asset that is worth millions of dollars. It is the Treasures of the Sea exhibit (http://www.treasuresofthesea.org/).

I’m sure it would be painful for the school to auction this off, but other institutions have self-funded projects this way.

I believe the taxpayers would far rather see the school help itself in this way rather than opening the door to a statewide property tax that will just keep growing year after year. Many of the newer residents of Delaware came here to escape that kind of taxation.
