LETTER TO THE EDITOR: NFL protest too public

One last comment regarding football players’ protesting as the NFL season gets underway:

The players have every right to protest as they wish. But it’s not right or fair that they get to do it on national TV.

After all, the rest of us may have many things we’d like to protest but we don’t have the ability to do it on such a vast venue. Their protests would mean so much more if they purchased TV time to vent just like the rest of us would need to do.

Regardless of their intent, the dishonoring of the national anthem is seen as a negative my many Americans. So the question is: Are the protests doing any good? Or will it end up being another meaningless gesture by wealthy athletes and fade with time?
