LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Pledge to vote

As an AARP Delaware volunteer, I’m proud of its long history of non-partisan voter education. AARP does not endorse candidates or make contributions to political campaigns or candidates. They do, however, focus on issues that are important to those age 50-plus in the First State.

For example, family caregiving is an issue that affects more than 123,000 unpaid family caregivers in Delaware. AARP advocates for family caregivers — and the loved ones who count on them — on Capitol Hill and in Sussex County.

Here in Delaware, AARP worked with a statewide coalition of partners to pass the CARE Act in 2016, which provides better supports for caregivers. We are working on giving family caregivers a physical and financial break in the current Delaware Legislature.

As we approach the upcoming primary, I want to call attention to issues like family caregiving, and let our candidates know that these issues are important to us. I urge all our candidates to address voters’ concerns on issues including Medicare, Social Security, prescription drugs, Medicaid and caregiving.

The best way to make our voices heard on the issues is to vote. Every vote counts. Your voice matters. To apply for absentee ballot and other voting information go to ivote.de.gov or 302-856-5367.

I’m committed to building a better, stronger, more inclusive America. Stand up for what you believe in. I’m inspired by what is possible and optimistic that our actions will make a difference.

Help us show our elected officials that Delawareans are voting this year! Make your pledge at www.aarp.org/vote.
