Letter to the Editor: Protection from flooding

I certainly hope that Delaware’s legislative leaders and the head of DNREC watched the rerun of the “60 Minutes” segment on how the Dutch have engineered solutions to flooding in their low-lying country that recently aired.

As Delaware is probably the state most likely to be impacted by sea-level rise in the future, now is the time to plan and fund protections. The threat is real and will only get worse as time goes on. Doing nothing to prepare would be a foolish course of action, especially as it has been shown that there are effective actions that can be taken.

One of the most interesting projects that was shown was a manmade dune that both protected a beach community and housed an underground parking garage. Think how great that would be in our beach communities.
