Letter to the Editor: What of guns already in circulation?

Dear Gov. Carney,

I applaud your efforts along with other governors to address “sensible gun safety.”

But I’d like to see an answer to the overall problem which I’ve never seen addressed. What, if anything, can be done about all the guns already in circulation? Wikipedia says there are 393 million guns in the U.S. legal and otherwise? Probably there are many more not accounted for.

Just about everywhere in our country, a person bent on havoc and destruction could easily get their hands on a gun of some sort. Indeed, at this very moment somewhere there is someone legally purchasing what is referred to as an “assault rifle” an AR-15 type rifle along with magazines to hold 30 rounds merely to avoid any future government restrictions. What is to be done?
