Letter to the Editor: Were plant-based biodegradable bags considered before ban?

I wonder if, when they decided to ban plastic bags in the larger stores and require people to bring their own bags, they even considered requiring these stores to replace fossil fuel, nonbiodegradable plastic bags with plant-based biodegradable bags.

I don’t know what the cost difference is, but it would be absorbed by the consumer just like any other change in overhead. And because every store would have to use the same type of bag, competition wouldn’t be an issue.
