LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Phillips should be next 16th District Senator

I would like to encourage voters in the 16th Senatorial District to consider Louisa Phillips to be your next senator. I have known Louie for over 50 years, and know her to be conscientious, hard working, and dedicated to family, friends and her profession as a nurse, educator and manager. With the aging population of Delaware, who better than a distinguished health care professional to work for us in Legislative Hall?

One of Louie’s primary platforms is to fix our roads. Our current senator has committed $750,000 of our Community Transportation Funds to the City of Dover to fix their roads rather than our own. Meanwhile, the 16th District’s residents are asking the following questions:

1. How many millions of dollars have been and will be spent to get folks in and out of the State, whereas the residents who pay for DelDOT’s operations live with roads that haven’t been upgraded in 60 years?

2. Why does Woodlytown Road/Plain Dealing Road now service 7 separate housing developments that exit onto it and yet remains a two lane highway with no shoulders?

3. Why does Irish Hill Road, on which I learned to ride a bicycle over 60 years ago, now service 9 separate significant housing developments and yet remains a two lane highway with no shoulders?

4. Why does Barratt’s Chapel Road service 4 separate significant housing developments and yet remains a two lane highway with no shoulders? There have already been bike fatalities and auto fatalities on this road.

Seems like once you venture off Rt 1 and head west, safety takes a back seat and you’re on your own. Let’s send Louisa Phillips to Dover to rearrange the priorities to benefit Kent County’s residents, not out-of-state interests or local cronyism.
