Letter to the Editor: Serving in military an honor

While I will agree with Ms. Hotte’s letter that serving in the military is an honor, that’s about the only thing she said that rang true to me. The mass of illegals trying to enter the U.S. via our southern border was and is real.

As far as military vs civilian pay it is not on the same scale and the COLA and housing allowances help out but are not often raised to keep up with inflation. Are far as missing holidays, weddings, funerals I missed more than I care to remember and I know for a fact this trend continues to this day.

Many times long separations from family are necessary and if she believes that in itself is not a sacrifice, than I don’t know what to tell her. I’m not aware of very many civilian jobs wherein you are told one day that you’ll be leaving in a few days for distant lands and they can’t even tell you how long you’ll be gone. No other job, that I am aware of do you basically sign your life over to your employer. If it were easy, everyone would do it! God Bless our men and women in uniform and God Bless the USA!
