Impeachment?

A recent Associated Press article reported that as House Democrats begin laying out the vision for their new majority, impeaching Donald Trump is noticeably missing from the to-do list and firmly on the margins.

• Impeach him for what? Being the best president we’ve had in a long time? — Steve Peterman

• The Constitution defines impeachment at the federal level and limits impeachment to “the president, vice president, and all civil officers of the United States” who may be impeached and removed only for “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors”.So I’m asking what high crimes has he committed? — Jeff Grzeszczak

• Technically the president (whoever that may be) has to actually do something wrong as spelled out by the Constitution to be impeached. So far Trump hasn’t even gotten close to those standards. You don’t get to impeach someone simply because you don’t like them or still upset your side lost. — Shawn Knox

No punishment

President Donald Trump said last week the U.S. will not punish Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman nor cut arms sales to Saudi Arabia for the killing of U.S.-based columnist Jamal Khashoggi.

• Trump discredits the CIA and U.S. intel agencies because of what else — the Trump family coffers: “Saudi Arabia, I get along with all of them. They buy apartments fro me. They spend $40 million, $50 million,” Trump said during a presidential campaign rally in Alabama in August 2015. “Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much.” This has nothing to do with arm sales — the amount of which he has overinflated, or oil. Just before the mid-term election, Trump was whining on Twitter about Saudis not dropping the price of oil. Most corrupt and morally bankrupt administration in the history of our country. — Michele Lapinski

• Because the U.S. has many interests and actors in the area — cutting off what few we have would be stupid! — Howard Gaines III

•  We don’t need their oil, punish them. We stop buying their oil they would starve, now punish them for that murder. — David Givens
