Speak Out: Divided country?

Readers reacted to a recent letter to the editor headlined “United no more” wherein the author wrote “Donald Trump has destroyed the United States of America.”

• I find the conclusion drawn in the commentary amusing. The POTUS is elected by majority vote. But “he” has divided America. Perhaps the writer should consult Mr. Mirror before retiring to an appropriate safe space there to engage in some therapeutic thumb sucking and pouting. — R. Howard Anthony

• Trump lost the popular vote. The majority of voters voted for Clinton. — Ginny Jewell

• The division in our great country rests at the feet of those that supported Hillary Clinton. She lost and her voters have decided to not accept the will of the majority of states in our republic. Will the writer expect us to not support her choice for president if he or she were to win? Probably, and then follow up with an editorial bashing those that did not vote for her personal choice. — Dave McGuigan

•How did he divide us? Want to take a closer look at the Obama administration or the behavior of the left? Who are the ones attacking other thinking people? You are a facist, sexist and other-ists if you dont believe like liberals and Democrats. It’s open season on the right. It is way past time to have a reality check. Sixty-five million voted for him and you just have to get over it just like we had to get over you electing Obama, the sellout to Islam and open racist, twice. — Alex Fowler

• How come you guys always bring up Obama when trying to defend Trump? Obama didn’t do anything because the Congress would not let an elected black man be successful. It wasn’t Obama’s fault or the 60 million people who voted for him. Congress stinks and we need to get rid of all of them. — Timmy Harmon

How come you guys always bring up Trump when trying to defend Obama? BTW Obama is half wite! Hope and change is what got him into office, but lies left all his black and white supporters in worse condition than before. Putting the men aside, just look at the economy. Look at the cold hard facts. Obama stunk as a president. — Steel Ovaries

• Steel Ovaries, these are all verifiable facts: The economy gained a net 11.6 million jobs. The unemployment rate dropped to below the historical norm. Average weekly earnings for all workers were up 4.0 percent after inflation. The gain was 3.7 percent for just production and nonsupervisory employees. After-tax corporate profits also set records, as did stock prices. The S&P 500 index rose 166 percent. Illegal immigration declined: The Border Patrol caught 35 percent fewer people trying to get into the U.S. from Mexico. — Jeff Haycraft

• How hard is it for Democrats to understand that a wall forces you to the gate? It’s common sense. I know that idiots are still going to try crossing illegally. Two things are going on. Trump made a promise and Democrats won’t allow it. Payback for Obamacare? And Democrats use these people for votes. — Ray Zelano

• I’m no big fan of Trump’s, but don’t act like it was all peaches and cream up until two years ago. The people in Washington collectively have be leading us down a bad path for the last 50 years. — John P. Leech
