Speak Out: Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood clinics in several states are charging new fees, tapping financial reserves, intensifying fundraising and warning of more unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases after its decision to quit a $260 million federal family planning program in an abortion dispute with the Trump administration.

• Let the programs live through donations, just like most other charitable organizations must. If half of the people who scream about the right to choose would donate $100, the federal tax money would be more than replaced. — Bob Skuse

• I am a bit torn with this situation. Abortion isn’t a way to get “rid of your problem” because you did not have protected sex. But it should be for those women who have been rapped and choose whether to keep the child or to not. Rape truly changes you as a person. The fear, the guilty, helplessness you feel. It stays with you forever. Having to look at your belly and reliving those feelings, is something I could never imagine. If Planned Parenthood wants to give free birth control and do Std testing for late teens and adults that don’t wish to see their primary doctor I feel that is fine. Aborting a pregnancy that is the result of rape would be the only way I personally feel OK with abortions. — Bethany Ann Brooks

• They will get my increased donations going forward. —Susan Janis

• Sorry, but you can’t defend the right to life while you support a man who allows children at the border to die of influenza because they refuse to immunize them and separate them from their families. — Gary Greer
