Armed robbery reported in Seaford

SEAFORD — A 26-year-old Bridgeville man was arrested after investigation into an alleged armed robbery at a bank in the 1200 block of Stein Highway on Jan. 29, Seaford Police said Wednesday.

Devontae Massey was charged with second-degree robbery, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and unlawful imprisonment, spokesman Sr. Corporal Eric Chambers said. He was given a $26,000 secured bail.

Police said a person was approached in the parking lot of a Seaford business and asked for a ride. The person was forced with the threat of a gun to go to a nearby bank and withdraw money from an ATM. and turn it over to a suspect. The suspect then fled, police said.

Police said surveillance photographs from the bank were obtained and immediately put out to the public using social media. Within minutes, police said, the suspect in the photographs was identified as Mr. Massey by help from the community and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.

On Tuesday, police said, Mr. Massey was located at Sussex Correctional Institution and charged.
