Arrest of Laurel man caps month-long drug investigation

LAUREL – Delaware State Police on Thursday, Aug. 29 arrested 31-year-old Rickey A. Hawkins Jr. of Laurel for alleged distribution of illegal drugs, capping a month-long investigation.

Hawkins was taken into custody at the Motel 6 in Seaford and in executing a search and seizure warrant at Hawkins’ residence in the 28000 block of Seaford Road, Laurel, authorities located drugs, drug paraphernalia and suspected drug proceeds, according to state police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe.

At Hawkins’ Seaford Road residence, authorities discovered approximately 2.17 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 16.88 grams of cocaine, 3.82 grams of methamphetamine,.854 grams of heroin (122 bags), 74.79 grams of marijuana, 11.2 grams of THC wax, drug paraphernalia and more than $20,000 in suspected drug proceeds, Cpl. Jaffe said.

At Troop 5, state police charged Hawkins with: Possession With Intent To Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 2 Quantity; four counts of Possession With Intent To Deliver a Controlled Substance; Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Hawkins was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on $31,000 unsecured, Cpl. Jaffe said.
