Attempted armed robbery reported in Dover

Antonio Stevens

DOVER — A 27-year-old Florida man was arrested Sunday night after an alleged attempted armed robbery in the Kentucky Fried Chicken parking lot at 1000 Forrest Avenue, Dover Police said.

According to authorities, a 38-year-old female was standing outside the restuarant waiting for a ride home at 11:15 p.m. when approached by Antonio Stevens. Police alleged that Mr. Stevens demanded that she open the store, but she advised him that she did not have access to do so. Mr. Stevens then demanded her personal belongings, eventually pointing what appeared to be a handgun at her, police said.

After a brief struggle, police said, Mr. Stevens fled. Arriving officers searched the area for Mr. Stevens and took him into custody following a brief foot chase. Officers also located a mask and BB gun that were allegedly used in the incident, police said.

Mr. Stevens was charged with first-degree attempted armed robbery, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony and resisting arrest. He was committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna in default of $6,500 cash bond.
