Troopers learned McCafferty had engaged in an altercation with his two younger siblings, both are minors, and his mother.  Investigation revealed McCafferty struck both his mother and one younger sibling, but neither were injured, Cpl. Jaffe said.

As troopers attempted to take McCafferty into custody, he actively resisted arrest, during which a trooper was forced into the edge of the front door, resulting in injury, Cpl. Jaffe said.

McCafferty was subsequently taken into custody.

The state trooper was treated at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and released.

McCafferty was taken to Troop 5 and charged with: Assault 2nd Injure a Law Enforcement Officer; Resisting Arrest; two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and two counts of Offensive Touching.

McCafferty was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $7,200 secured bail.
