Bridgeville man charged in machete assault

BRIDGEVILLE — A 65-year-old Bridgeville man was arrested after an alleged assault with a machete, Delaware State Police said.

The alleged incident took place at approximately 11:45 a.m. last Saturday, police said, when troopers were dispatched to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for a report of an alleged assault. Further investigation revealed that a 55-year-old Bridgeville man was assaulted while he was at his friends residence in the 17000 block of Redden Road, police said.

According to authorities, Augustas Bailey allegedly entered the residence and began threatening to kill the man. Mr. Bailey then proceeded to go after the man armed with a machete, police said. While attempting to defend himself, the man was subsequently stuck in his right hand.

The man sustained a serious laceration to his right hand and was later transported to the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore,, police said.

Police said troopers responded to Mr. Bailey’s residence in the 17000 block of Goose Bay Lane, where he was taken into custody without incident.

He was transported back to Troop 5 where he was charged with first-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, first-degree reckless endanger, and terroristic threatening. Mr. Bailey was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $106,000 secured bond.
