Caretaker indicted in Smyrna theft case


SMYRNA — A Frederica in-home caretaker accused last summer of stealing from a patient was indicted by a Kent County Grand Jury on 58 felony charges earlier this week.

Dawn R. Cirillo, also known as Dawn R. DeSomma, is facing counts involving unlawful use of a credit card, second-degree forgery and theft, according to the indictment sought by the Delaware Department of Justice. She is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

According to the Smyrna Police Department at the time of Ms. Cirillo’s arrest in August 2015, a 17-month investigation concluded that approximately $50,003 was allegedly stolen from an elderly Smyrna victim from August 2012 to July 2015.

Ms. Cirillo was 51 years old when charged, authorities said.

Police said voluntarily turned herself in to the Smyrna PD in August, was arraigned in JP Court 7 in Dover and released on $128,000 unsecured bond.
