Charges filed after Dover boy, 1, dies

DOVER – A 1-year-old boy died after suffering multiple serious injuries while in the care of a 28-year-old man Wednesday, Dover Police said.

Edjuan Blackshear was arrested and charged with child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, and authorities said additional charges were pending and will be released at a later time. Mr. Blackshear was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown in lieu of $101,000 cash bond.

Miles Duncan was initially found by police officers called to an apartment in the 800 block of Woodcrest Drive for a reported child not breathing at approximately 12:38 p.m., spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said. The child was quickly transported to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in Dover, police said, and then transferred to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.

Police said the child suffered injuries to the head and torso, along with internally, and was pronounced dead at approximately 12:53 a.m. Thursday.
