Clayton man, 19, dies in crash

DOVER — A 19-year-old Clayton man died in a single vehicle crash on Wednesday morning, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:59 a.m., when a 2006 Nissan Sentra was traveling southbound on Brenford Road (Del. 42) approaching Mt. Friendship Road (Del. 15). For unknown reasons the driver failed to negotiate a slight curve in the roadway and traveled off the west edge of Brenford Road. After exiting the roadway the Sentra struck a standing tree.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt and pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
The roadway was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. The investigation continues, police said.
