Crash claims life of Lincoln woman, 76

LINCOLN –Delaware State Police are seeking to know why a vehicle went off the road and struck a tree Monday morning, killing the 76-year-old Lincoln woman driving the Kia Spectra.

The fatal cash occurred April 29 at about 10:26 a.m., state police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said.

Initial investigation revealed the 2009 Kia was westbound on Johnson Road east of Cedar Creek Road when for an unknown reason or reasons it went off the north side of the roadway and struck a large tree.

The driver, who was properly restrained, was transported to the Milford Bayhealth Campus Hospital by ambulance where she was pronounced dead, Cpl. Jaffe said.  Her name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation by DSP’s Collision Reconstruction Unit. Johnson Road was closed for approximately 1 1/2 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared
