Department of Correction seeking offender after work departure

Benjamin Whitaker

DOVER — A 28-year-old Little Creek resident was sought Wednesday after failing to return to Morris Community Correctional Center from an approved work pass, Delaware Department of Correction spokesperson Jamie Young said.

Benjamin Whitaker’s whereabouts were unknown and unauthorized, the DOC said, and a warrant for escape after conviction was issued. His original offense was third-degree burglary, authorities said.

Whitaker was described as a 5-foot-6, 145-pound white male with brown hair and brown eyes, and tattoos on his upper right arm, chest, left hand, right shoulder and abdomen.

The DOC asked anyone with information on Whitaker to call (800) 542-9524 or their local police department.

Community Corrections Centers are Level 4 facilities where the Department of Correction manages offenders who are transitioning back into the community. These centers are not secured like Level 5 prisons, as offenders are permitted to the leave the facility to go to work, seek jobs, or attend approved treatment sessions.
